Bingo Bonus Wagering Explained: The 2026 Rules
Almost every bingo site offers new players a welcome bonus – but the headline amount is only half the story. The bit that really matters is the wagering requirement. Here’s what it means, how to work it out, and how the Gambling Commission’s 2026 rules have changed things for UK players.
What is a wagering requirement?
A wagering requirement is the number of times you must play through bonus funds before any winnings from them can be withdrawn. It’s usually written as a multiple, such as “4x” or “wager 4 times”.
Until you’ve met the requirement, the bonus – and anything you win with it – stays in a separate bonus balance that you can play with but can’t cash out.
How to work it out
Multiply the bonus by the wagering requirement. That’s how much you need to spend on tickets or games before the bonus becomes withdrawable.
| Bonus | Wagering | Play needed |
|---|---|---|
| £10 | 1x | £10 |
| £20 | 2x | £40 |
| £25 | 4x | £100 |
| £50 | 4x | £200 |
| £30 | 10x (the new maximum) | £300 |
The lower the number, the easier the bonus is to use. A “no wagering” offer means any winnings are paid as real cash straight away.
What changed in 2026
From 19 January 2026, the Gambling Commission introduced two important rules for UK-licensed sites:
- Wagering is capped at 10x. No bonus can require you to play it through more than ten times.
- No more mixed-product offers. Sites can’t make you play one type of gambling to unlock a bonus on another – for example, buying bingo tickets to get free spins on slots.
Before these changes, wagering of 30x, 40x or even higher wasn’t unusual. Now bonuses are simpler and fairer, and many bingo bonuses carry 4x wagering or less. You can read the details in the Gambling Commission’s announcement.
Other bonus terms to check
Wagering isn’t the only thing in the small print. Before you opt in to any bonus, look for:
- Minimum deposit – usually £5 or £10 to qualify.
- Expiry – how long you have to use the bonus and meet the wagering. Seven days is common, so a bonus you can’t use in time is no use at all.
- Maximum win or redeemable amount – some bonuses cap how much you can withdraw from them.
- Eligible rooms and games – bingo bonuses may only work in certain rooms, and some games count less towards wagering.
- Payment methods – some offers exclude deposits made with certain e-wallets.
- Withdrawing early – making a withdrawal before you’ve met the wagering often cancels the bonus.
Is a bingo bonus worth it?
A bonus can be a good way to try a new site and get more games for your money – as long as you see it as extra entertainment, not a way to make money. If you’d only spend £5 on a night’s bingo anyway, there’s no need to deposit £10 just to unlock a bigger offer.
Our tip: pick offers with low wagering, a realistic expiry and no maximum-win cap, and ignore the rest.
